5⭐
Douglas Preston has enthralled me with his writing once again. Reading his work is always an adventure.
He masterfully creates a setting that is fully immersive. At one point you might find yourself claustrophobic as he maneuvers through narrow, hot tunnels in ancient Egyptian tombs.
At another you find yourself bumping along paths leading to mysterious treasures.
This collection of articles gives us a glimpse into Preston’s life as he finds ideas for his many works of fiction and nonfiction. Preston himself is embroiled in difficult and fascinating situations that keep the reader turning the page.
From Oak Island to Dead Mountain, he digs into the details of some of our favorite mysteries.
This was a five-star read for me. I have read a couple of Preston’s other works but had never delved into his published articles.
Some reviewers commented that there was nothing new here, but they have followed his work more closely than I have, so for me this was all new material. It was like being given a behind the scenes pass to an author’s life and Preston has lived an exciting one.
With articles about true crime, archaeology, and unsolved mysteries, these quick reads will be great for anyone just getting into the world of Douglas Preston.
