The Shadow of the Gods is the first book in the Bloodsworn Trilogy. We follow three protagonists–Orka, Elvar, and Varg as they navigate a world full of Viking lore and violence.

This is a world where the gods have died in a saga told battle fitting for an epic fantasy. Orka, her husband Thorkel, and their son Brecca are trying to live out their lives away from the politics and fighting. But soon the fight comes to them.

Elvar is tied to the Battle Grim, trying to earn her own battle fame while also trying to forget her past.

Varg is on the run attempting to fulfill a blood oath before his past catches up to him.

Throughout the story the past threatens to overtake our characters and this world they live in.

This book is full of violence and gore, but it also has heart and epic storytelling and I envy each person who picks it up and enters this world for the first time.

Who knew that a book about blood, gore and Viking lore could be such a comforting read. But just as I watch and rewatch Lord of the Rings to try to capture that feeling of adventure and fellowship, I will enjoy revisiting this story again. (After I’ve read the last two books)
