Phoebe’s life has not gone according to plan.

She is still an adjunct professor with an unfinished dissertation, her IVF attempts have failed, and her husband has left her for a colleague.

When she finds her cat dead, that is the last straw.

She books the best room at the Cornwall Inn to get away.

When she arrives, she realizes that every other room is booked for a high end wedding.

When the bride confronts Phoebe about being at the hotel, Phoebe confesses her plan.

Lila and Phoebe form an immediate, if somewhat strange, bond.

As I got to know the people at the wedding, I found myself hoping that everyone would get a happy ending.

Contemporary fiction is not my most read genre, but when the plot and the characters are as well written as The Wedding People, I enjoy going along for the ride.

My book club picked this book for January and I think we will have a lot to discuss.

I don’t want to give away the main plot points, but I think book clubs will love this book because everyone will have different opinions on how the two main protagonists could have made better decisions. I hope it makes for a lively discussion in a few weeks.
