Middle grade survival books are some of my favorite books to read. This one kept me on the edge of my seat.

When the Lockwood’s find themselves alone in the middle of a blackout, they know they will be fine. After all, their dad is a survivalist and they have plenty of supplies. They prepared for this.

What they didn’t prepare for was for everything to be gone in the blink of an eye. Now the two boys are on the road, trying to get to a friend’s ranch 96 miles away in scorching heat.

With little food and water, and a couple of extra mouths to feed, John doesn’t know how he’s going to do it, but he has to. He has to get to the ranch.

This is one that keeps the stakes high and then makes them higher.
