4⭐

It Came from the Trees is a creepy spooky camp tale for middle-grade readers. The whole premise appealed to me from the summer camp to the Bigfoot creature in the woods.

Jenna is an outdoor girlie. Her Pap was the first Black park ranger at Sturbridge Reservation. This scout trip with her best friend Reese should be a piece of cake. But when something horrible comes in the middle of the night and takes Reese, Jenna is left with a deep fear of what lurks in the woods.

As the search for Reese dwindles and she is declared a runaway, Jenna knows she must return to the forest and find her friend. Can she trust this new scout troop with her secret or will she have to find Reese on her own?

At first I worried that I wouldn’t get into the story but as it progressed I fell in love with the characters and the progression of the missing person in the woods plot. I love the friendships that Jenna develops which balances out the darker themes.

I think this book would be very popular in all middle school libraries.
